Peace education: methodology of the XXI century

In today’s world, schools face growing challenges related to social tensions, exclusion, bullying, discrimination, cultural diversity, and global crises. Therefore, peace education has become one of the key priorities in modern education. Teachers and schools increasingly need practical strategies that promote inclusion, empathy, dialogue, and emotional safety in the classroom.

This Erasmus+ peace education course for teachers explores how peace education can be integrated into everyday teaching practice through modern, student-centred methodologies. Instead of treating peace education as a separate subject, the course demonstrates how its principles can naturally become part of classroom activities, school culture, and curriculum design across different subjects.

The course combines innovative educational approaches such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), inclusive education, social and emotional learning, and constructivist teaching methods. Diversity is treated as a strength, while teaching strategies are adapted to different learning styles, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.

Moreover, participants learn how to create safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments that foster communication, empathy, democratic values, and conflict resolution skills. Through practical workshops, storytelling, collaborative learning, Photovoice, and outdoor education, teachers gain ready-to-use materials and strategies for implementing peace education in schools.

As a result, participants leave the course with practical tools to support wellbeing, inclusion, intercultural understanding, and peaceful school communities in everyday educational practice.
