“Learning on the Move” is an innovative Erasmus+ teacher training course in Madeira that introduces trekking as a powerful method of outdoor and experiential learning for teachers. The course connects education with real-world experiences, helping educators design engaging, multidisciplinary lessons outside the traditional classroom.

Set in the unique natural environment of Madeira, this course supports teachers in integrating outdoor education into school curricula, while addressing key Erasmus+ priorities such as sustainability, inclusion, digital competence, and active citizenship.

Middle school teachers, secondary school teachers, adult education providers, VET teachers, head teachers, deputy heads, future head teachers, trainers, councilors, librarians, researchers, NGO workers, volunteers serving in the education sector.

Course Objectives

This Erasmus+ outdoor learning course for teachers in Madeira aims to develop practical competences in experiential and multidisciplinary education.

Methodology & Assessment

The course follows an experiential, learner-centred, and task-based approach, aligned with the principles of Erasmus+ teacher training courses.
Learning combines outdoor practice with reflection, ensuring real and transferable outcomes.
Teaching methods include:

  • learning by doing in real outdoor environments
  • guided trekking sessions with educational and pedagogical focus
  • collaborative problem-solving and orienteering activities
  • group reflection and peer learning
  • use of digital tools for navigation and documentation

Assessment in this Erasmus+ outdoor education course is continuous and practical. It is based on:

  • active participation in all activities
  • completion of practical outdoor tasks
  • reflection and peer feedback
  • engagement in collaborative learning

As a final outcome, participants design a simple outdoor lesson plan, ready to be implemented in their school.

Participants in this Erasmus+ course in Madeira will have access to a wide range of practical learning resources.

Costs

The 560 EUR fee covers the course tuition, issuing the required Erasmus+ documents, coffee breaks, and a guided tour.
We offer an optional cultural programme in order to provide you with opportunities to explore the wonders of the area. All the details including the destinations and the prices will be sent to the participants two months before the course starts.

Please note:

  • Accommodation, meals, and other transport arrangements are not included and must be organized by participants or their institutionsovers the course tuition, issuing the required Erasmus+ documents, coffee breaks, and a guided tour.
  • Transport to activity sites is subject to an additional fee.
  • Group meals are optional and paid separately.
