GDANSK – PEARL OF
THE BALTIC SEA
Gdansk is one of Poland’s most beautiful cities, rich in history, culture and unique architecture. It lies on the shore of the Baltic Sea and is part of the Tri-city, together with Sopot and Gdynia. It is a city with a rich past that has played a key role in European history, including being the site of the outbreak of the Second World War and the cradle of Poland’s first step towards independence of Russia, the ‘Solidarity’.
ATTRACTIONS OF GDANSK:
Old Town⧉ – full of charming streets, with the Main Town (the representative district), Długi Targ (the ‘Long Market’) and the Main Town Hall.
St Mary’s Basilica – one of the largest brick churches in the world, with an excellent viewpoint.
Neptune’s Fountain – a symbol of the city located on Długi Targ Street.
World War II Museum⧉ – a modern museum, introducing the history of the war (free admission on Tuesdays!).
European Solidarity Centre⧉ – a place dedicated to the history of ‘Solidarity’ and Eastern Europe’s struggle for freedom.
Westerplatte – a historic site, where World War II began.
Gdańsk Crane – one of the most characteristic monuments of the city.
TRICITY – WHAT TO SEE:
SOPOT⧉ – nnown for the longest wooden pier in Europe, the Forest Opera and elegant cafes.
GDYNIA⧉ – a modern city with a harbour, Skwer Kościuszki (the main street), ORP ‘Błyskawica’ (a museum-turned-warship) and the Gdynia Aquarium.
TRIP TO THE HEL⧉ PENINSULA:
Hel is one of the most picturesque corners of Poland. On the peninsula you can visit:
- Sandy beaches and cycling trails
- Seal Aquarium – the marine station in Hel⧉
- Lighthouse with a view of the Baltic Sea

TRANSPORT AND PRACTICAL TIPS
- URBAN COMMUNICATION: Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia are all connected by SKM (Rapid Urban Railway), allowing easy travel between the cities.
- Single-trip ticket: entitles you to a single journey without changing.
- 75-minute transfer ticket: allows travel with any number of transfers within 75 minutes of punching in.
- 24-hour ticket: valid for 24 hours from the moment of punching within Gdańsk.
- 24-hour metropolitan ticket: valid for 24 hours from the moment of punching within the area of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Wejherowo.
Reduced ticket prices are proportionally lower. Children and students up to 24 years of age benefit from free travel.
- RAPID URBAN RAILWAY (SKM) IN THE TRI-CITY AREA:
SKM ticket prices depend on the number of kilometres travelled. For example, a normal ticket on the route up to 6 km costs PLN 4.20, and on the route 7-10 km – PLN 4.80. You can check the exact prices in the fare tables available on the SKM website- Where to buy tickets:
- Public transport tickets: are available at ticket machines, kiosks, via mobile apps and from drivers (on selected lines).
- SKM tickets: can be purchased at station ticket offices, ticket machines and via mobile apps. If you are unable to purchase a ticket in advance of your journey, there is an option to purchase one from the conductor on the train, but this may incur an additional charge.
- Where to buy tickets:
- BIKE: There are many cycle paths in the Tricity, including a scenic route to the Hel

WEATHER FORECAST:
The Tricity has a temperate maritime climate, which means cooler summers and mild
winters.
Winter (December-February): Temperatures from -5°C to 5°C, snow is rare but can be
windy.
Spring (March-May): Temperatures range from 5°C to 18°C, with moderate rainfall.
Summer (June-August): Average temperatures range from 18°C to 25°C, although hot
weather does occur.
Autumn (September-November): Cooler days with temperatures between 10°C and 18°C, rain possible.
