Founded by the Arabs in the 9th century with the name “Alqamah,” it became an important center during the Norman and Swabian periods, as evidenced by the impressive architecture that still characterizes its charming historic center. With its natural beauty and picturesque surroundings, Alcamo offers an authentic experience in the heart of Sicily, a journey through time among culture, traditions, and breathtaking landscapes. According to legend, it was the birthplace of the poet Ciullo or Cielo d’Alcamo, who was the first to write in the Italian vernacular, even before Dante Alighieri.
